Liz, I have about a dozen hoya carnosa "shooting star" --
and they are so easy to grow that I keep giving them away as
Master Gardener swaps. Nobody's ever seen one!

These have a diagonal habit of growth, so it becomes almost
mandatory that one cut off the new extensions, and thus
have the starts for more plants.

The flowers come in clusters of from 4 to 15, and look like
rockets to me. They're gorgeous! They actually look like
firecracker rockets, because they each hang down from a
gently bending green stem in a loose bunch. The flowers
are white with a yellow center, becoming more yellow as they age,
and finally dripping a sweet liquid before falling.

I've never put them outside -- they're used to the grow lights
year round. Have no idea how they would prosper in the ground,
nor whether they would tolerate the beastly hot sun.
