I was taught that potatoes in storage must be able to have some air
circulation. I use chicken wire bins now but we used to built the bins with
1X2 spaced 1/2 inch apart. My potatoes are in the root cellar now and will
stay hard with no sprouting until apr-may next year. I gave away 200 pounds
of potatoes with small sprouts in July since we were getting fresh ones from
the garden. I could have sold any amount of Purple Viking potatoes at market
this year. In fact I only have seed tubers left for next year. :-) In your
case I think I would eat the ones in the plastic pot first. FWIW
