Went out and picked a 3-gallon bucket full of sweet chiles, okra, cucumbers,
cherry tomatoes, and
figs a little while ago. Been trying to cool down ever since, it is really
hot and humid out there
today.
I left a lot of crowder peas for Miz Anne to pick and it looks as though
there a few more ears of
corn ready.
The green beans have about had it. That batch of seed was some of the
sorriest we ever got. Bought
it, IIRC, from Henry Fields - bush Kentucky Wonders, a variety that has
always done well for us in
the past. The replacement seed is from Burpee and is a different variety of
Kentucky Wonder bush.
They will go into the ground in mid-August for the fall garden and we're
keeping our fingers crossed
on them.
The lima beans still aren't filled out but are loaded with beans. Sure hope
we get a mess off of
that row as we dearly love the things.
We can hear thunder off in the distance and it has been overcast most of the
day. With any luck we
won't get any more rain for a few days, allowing things to dry up a bit.
Sure wish the tomatoes would hurry up and ripen, some of them are as big as
4 or 5 inches across
already and still green. I'm looking forward to that first BLT of the season
with everything but the
bacon coming from our garden or our bread machine.
