I shoot for 30 a day, eat lots of protein and try to make my carb intake
simple carbohydrates versus the complex ones. I'm a Type II diabetic
and, more specifically, what the diabetes docs call a "Syndrome X"
diabetic, older male, pot belly, with a history of heart disease. My
pancreas produces plenty of insulin but my cells have become resistant
to passing it through the cell wall where it can burn the carbs for
energy for my body. Consequently I frequently get hypoglycemic, my meds
add insulin to the mix, my body overloads on the stuff, and I burn all
my carbs in a few minutes instead of several hours. I pretty much
monitor my blood glucose 2 to 4 times a day to ensure I'm not getting
too much out of range. Being a diabetic isn't an easy thing.
