SF is indeed known for spice! There be some wunnerful restaurants. My favorite is Cha Cha Cha on Haight St. They do Caribbean with some wonderful combinations, and they have inspired my cooking. It gets very crowded (2 hr. wait), so get there early, get your name on the list, and then wander Haight St. for some entertainment. They do not take reservations. If you like garlic, try Caffe Sport on Green St. It is outstanding, unless you have a problem with cholesterol. Make reservations. Stay away from the Stinking Rose (on Columbus). There is a Thai restaurant on Folsom, just near the 101 overpass. (I can never remember the address, cross street or name.) It is on a Northwest corner. Lovely. For a _special_ SF experience, try Hamburger Mary's. In Berkeley, try Ginger Island on 4th St. (or is it 6th?), near the University overpass. Not hot, but lovely. Also in Bezerkeley, go to Chez Panisse (510-548-5525 for reservations). This place invented California Cuisine, and it is truly special. And the hottest is the Habanero Hamburger (waiver required) at the Prince of Wales Pub in San Mateo, a little south of SF. It is right by the Race Track. Enjoy! scott@this is making me hungry...
