It's like comparing the sales volume of beer to cooking oil. This actually happened _commercially_ for the first time about 10 years ago. The reality is that salsa has been the most used condiment sauce in the US for far longer. As others have mentioned there's a whole lotta home-made salsaing going on! Your comparison of beer to cooking oil is interesting but is not correct. Beer and wine, corn oil and olive oil would have been better. Further, salsa and ketchup are used in very similar ways... on eggs, potatos, hamburgers, hotdogs... So their use is not completely different... there is a large overlap which is why they have are compared. Just illuminating a few corners.
