My thanks for those that took the time and trouble to reply and
out of interest I'll post a summary of what the list
recommended. Hopefully this will be of interest to those
interested in the plants and want to find out more.
The figure in brackets is the number of recommendations.
Book list
A: The pepper garden (2)
B: Chile pepper fever: Mines hotter than yours (2)
C: The whole chile pepper cook book (2)
D: Peppers: The domesticated capsicums (1)
E: Hot pursuits (1)
Author list
A: - Dave DeWitt and Paul Bosland
B: - Susan Hazen-Hammond
C: - Dave DeWitt and Nancy Gerlach
D: - Jean Andrews
E: - Amal Naj
In my search for information I came across these two which may
be interesting.
The great chile book - Mark Miller
Peppers of the world: An indentification guide - DeWitt and
Bosland
I am going to order Mines hotter than yours, The great chile
book and Peppers of the world from Amazon who seem to have a
good range and price.
I would like to buy the lot but with our banana currency and
shipping costs will make this very expensive. Perhaps after the
bank manager has recovered ;-)
If anyone has a copy of Peppers: The domesticated capsicums they
would like to sell please contact me by email. This is one I
would dearly like to have but new is just too expensive. I am
willing to prepay including all costs in shipping to South
Africa.
Joy of all joys my first Habanero has ripened and been devoured.
Wow was it hot but totally different to C. annuum birds eye
type. At these heat levels I am not going to stick my neck out
and even try to guess which was hotter. Who really cares ;-)
With ten hab plants I think I have just moved closer to chile
heaven. Now the Scotch Bonnets remain to be tested. Hopefully
the Locoto, C. pubescens will finally produce some fruit as
well.
High on habs and ajis
Peter
