[CH] Whatsa Hot Luck?

I'm a new member of this list and must say I am enjoying it immensely. 
I eat lotsa sauce, and love to eat in general.  Can someone(everyone)
plse tell me about Hot Lucks?  I have never heard the term before.  I
can make an educated guess that a hot luck is a pot luck that involves
hot food, but I'd love to hear how they work in the different areas. 
I'm from Vancouver, BC.
