I do this all the time and the plants seem to really appreciate it.  I
just
try and make sure that I use mostly clear water (not the stuff straight
out of the gravel vacuum ;-).  I have never seen any real indications
that
I may be overfertilizing.  When you consider how much time and effort
most aquarists take to make sure that their fish have the most suitable
environment as far as water quality goes (pH, nitrogen, ammonia,
hardness)
it is not too surprising that the plants appreciate the "cast off"
water.
