For the chile lover that has to have everything, what next? Hi Karen, My ma-in-law, a recent hotsauce convert came down to Cape Town for a few days and presented me with a chile clock that she found in a Johannesburg craft market. It consists of an inch-thick circular plate of clear resin in which real red Thai chiles have been set in a pattern, a central hole drilled and a clock mechanism installed. Kitsch but very cute: I love it. This M-in-L is the only family member who will sit down and eat fresh sardines with me, done Portugese-style, rolled in coarse salt and grilled over hot coals, then slathered with lemon juice and piripiri sauce. Hmm: time for a visit to the fishmonger.... Dave in Cape Town
