Hi all, I'm really shocked today. Last year I seeded my chillis in a polystyrene foam box on top of our heating system in the garage. The first one that showed his head was a Habanero Rojo, and this 10 days after seeding. This year I bought plastic seedling containers. I used the same soil, the same source of water, I put the containers on the same heating system (temperature doesn't seem to differ a lot - 23 °C). I had some left overs from last year, and wanted to see whether they still sprouted or not. I used Habanaro Rojos bought from "Davis Plant and Seed" from this year _and_ from last year. Yesterday, exactely three days after seeding, one of '97 Habs popped up from under the soil. *shiver* What can be the cause of this gigantic reduction in germination time? a) the fact that they are one year old? I thought that would be a drawback! b) the containers? More direct heat through plastic than PS-foam? c) a higher humidity? The plastic containers have a plastic lid. I left that closed for the first two days, but opened it after someone warned me that a closed container with high humidity is ideal for growing fungi. d) just lucky? e) or bad luck last year, with long germination times? What are other peoples records in germination speed? Greetings, -- DeJean
