Hi fellow Chile-heads! I'm new to this list, having just subscribed Sunday night, but I've been delighting in the world of peppers and chiles for quite a few years now. This year, I've decided to grow my own. I've read over the pepper gardening FAQ on the Chile-head website, so I've got a pretty good idea of how to go about this, but I'm left wondering what peppers would be best for my growing area. (Chicago, IL.) I'd really like to grow some habs and some cayenne, but want to make sure that they will grow properly (ie, full, healthy and HOT!) around here. An additional concern for me is what's the yeild on a single plant? I don't have a lot of room to work with, so I'm trying to make a balance between peppers and some other vegetables I want to grow. I can always dry/roast extras, but I want to make sure I'm not planting too few. Also welcomed would be a source for pepper seeds/seedlings in the Chicago area. So far the 'garden stores' I've checked in have smiled happily and pointed me to bell peppers. I'm not knocking bell peppers, but that's not quite what I'm looking for, thank you! Ok, that should be enough information to get me started! Thank you and I'll look forward to hearing from you all about this.
