It won't affect them at all. Gypsum is relatively harmless even in high doses. Dave Andersons' recommended rate from his books & my app rate were different by an order of 10x! It works on the soil, not the plants. Application rates depend on how much clay content is in your soil. On my heavy clay soil I used about a pound per 10 sq ft. Your nursery supplier will be able to tell you & the directions & are usually on the bag as well. Be careful with the peat moss though- clay + fiber = adobe! Be patient with the gypsum.
