The soap-and-pepper spray is a well-known aphid cure. I first was
introduced to it in the 1960s by a woman who had been using it
very successfully for many years.

I have been told that it works on a very simple principle:

     1. The soap makes the leaves slippery.

     2. The pepper makes the aphids sneeze.

     3. When the aphids sneeze, they lose their balance
on the slippery leaves and are killed when they fall.

There may be some other theories, but I kind of like this one. :)
