Regarding  the  worry about  weed killers  (or other harmful stuff in
soil)

Plant  Lupins.    This plant will take up  contaminates in soil.

Lupins were planted heavily around Chernoble  and have also been planted
around waste areas where chemicals were stored and leaked into the
soil  but not in massive amounts that would  allow superfund
involvement.
