"Redneck Riviera" Sizzle! Despite the inclement weather (remnants of Hurricane Mitch) two CH stalwarts, Rockin Randy and the Beach Boy showed up for the 1st Annual Redneck Riviera Sizzle! You should have seen the waitress’s eyes widen as we began arranging various hot sauces and delicacies on our table at Clancy’s Cantina; New Smyrna Beach, Florida’s only Mexican restaurant! We had brought five or six hot sauces, pickled chiles and chile powder from Thailand, sambal oelek from Indonesia and freshly made local kim chee. We began by heating up the house salsa thru the addition of our hot sauces, then chomping away at Clancy’s home-made chips. Mmmmmmmm…...when we finally got it right, they were so-o-o good! We quickly finished the first basket of chips before the food order was even taken! That cold cerveza felt good! And Rockin Randy took a particular liking to those Thai chiles! We hadn’t even ordered! Randy decided to harass the waitress and announced that we’d changed our minds and were going to an Italian restaurant! We finally gave our food order, the usual Mexican fare….tostada, burritos, camarones, refritos, arroz, etc. All pretty bland (well, it’s the "redneck riviera!"), but soon fixed using our assortment of goodies on the table! Man, Randy liked that kim chee too!! Following lunch, the Sizzle attendees visited "Al’s Place." Al Kulsa raises jalapenos, habs and datils (unique to this part of Florida). After we sampled the various sauces which Al makes, Randy bought a few bottles of X and XX "Bottled Hell" (datil sauce) and we called it a day! Note: That wonderful "Bottled Hell" is the Beach Boy’s favorite hot sauce!! Better get your reservations in early for Sizzle II! Randy and the Beach Boy PS Please join me Sunday at 9pm EST for "Cooking with the Beach Boy!" <http://busycooks.miningco.com/mpchat.htm> ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' Myron Menaker Daytona Beach FL USA myronm@bellsouth.net | \ / _\/_ .-'-. //o\ _\/_ -- / \ -- | /o\\ jgs^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^-=======-~^~^~^~~^~^~^~|~~^~^|^~` |
