I am a diabetic and a chilehead. I like a little heat in most anything. But,
I'm in it more for the flavour than for the heat. Maybe I'm fortunate in
that I have never had a problem with "ring of fire" or any other after
effects even after doing phet-phet Thai food. I hope your friend comes out
of his problem. But, I suspect that it has more to do with his nephritis
than with his diabetes.
