To: Margaret Lauterback Nicotine Sulphate The first thing I think you are doing in not considering the big difference in concentrations: I remember the old Black Flag nicotine sulfate. If I remember correctly one of the reasons it was banned is because of the concentrations and careless people. If I recall correctly it did not take much more than about ½ teaspoon to be lethal. Too many parents did not keep this stuff out of the reach of their own children, wound up killing their own kids and blaming it on the chemical company. Carelessly splashing this stuff on your skin could also cause problems. Now compare to Jerry Bakers concentrations. You start with the amount of chewing tobacco, that a tobacco chewer normaly uses; Definitely not a lethal dose. It then gets diluted 384:1 as a concentrate. Just as a gut feel I don't think this amount would hurt anyone. Then as an application it gets diluted again 256:1. To me like comparing a pharmaceutical bottle of asprin. If you take two, it won't hurt you, take a bottle of 1,000. You will never feel pain again. Nictonie sulfate is also listed in many books as an acceptable organic solution. Even in "The Pepper Garden" by Dave Dewitt and Paul Brosland, Pg 105 a mild solution is recommended. The price is also right, it cost me less than $6.00 per year for a 20x80 garden and can be used on any plant from seed leaf until the frost gets it. Byron P.S. If anyone out there wants to try some. Drop a note I'll send you formula and how to make it.
