I don't think you can go past Rosarios in the King William district. 1014 South Alamo - Tel 210/225/1806. We went there on a thursday night about 8 pm, the place was nearly full, clean, the staff friendly. Salsa was the best I tasted in San Antonio, I had Pipian-(a mole type sauce of ground nuts and seeds over a grilled chicken breast with rice and beans.*****. $7.95 other Items of interest on the menu were Calabacito de Puerco - A stew of squash, lean pork, Fresh Corn, Tomatoes, and Bell pepper. $7.25 Lengua Guisada - Tips of beef Tongue in a light tomato sauce $6.95 Pozole,- Seasoned Broth, with lean shredded pork hominy and shredded cabbage, garnished with fresh onions cilantro oregano crispy corn chips lemon wedge and a fresh chile de arbole paste . Camarrones al mojo de Ajo - Marinated shrimp in Garlic lime butter sauce grilled with onions and Peppers served with Frijoles a la charra, Pico de Gallo and Guacamole. I thought prices were generally quite reasonable. Only criticism I had was they only served Cinnamon flavoured Coffee, but 2 doors down the road there was a small Coffee place open till late at night where I got the best Short Black Expresso Coffee that I had during my month long Visit to Tx and Fla. The Starbucks chain should find out what blend this place uses and replace their vile tasting bitter brew. They could also train their staff in better presentation, we went to several in Florida and Tx and while it was better coffee than the average brew I was served in the USA it was only marginally so. Also went to Ma Tierra, Pico de Gallo, (think the Familly who runs these also Owns another place as well (La Margarita)?, but one of the waiters told me the food is basically the same in all three places. Had Cabarito al Horno at Ma Tierra (Goat) **** Had some Menudo (tripe)***** at Pico de Gallo. I have Hated Tripe all of my life, as a teenager when my mother cooked it at home I would rush into Kitchen with my hand over my nose grab a handfull of small change from her and run down the shops for a hamburger. After tasting Menudo for the first time I,m going to make it for new years day. I'll probably be the only one eating it at home so I can make it as Hot as I want. <Big G>. Actually had a reasonable lunch at a place on the riverwalk (main area) - (Cafe Ole} think it had just opened. Directly looking at the back of the Stage area next to a old established place (Roman on the river) ?? sat outside. There is a Tabasco shop on the lane just around the corner from the Menger Hotel, its just past a small Chile shop and wine sales place . Of note are the Large bottles of Tabasco USD $30. something ?? think they are either Half Gallon or 1 Gallon jars, only looked at them briefly as they looked a bit heavy to carry on the plane back to OZ..
