What did they do after reaching the 4-leaf stage? I grew Ajis last season, along with serranos, fatalis, habs, guajillos, anchos, chiles de arbol, and probably something else that managed to leak out of my sieve-like memory - and the Ajis were the wobbliest of the bunch. They were also the second-to-last to germinate. (The Fatalis took that particular prize.) In their little seedling-pots, the Ajis got leggy and spindly and tried to get horizontal. Eventually they straightened up and managed to survive their transplant into the garden. They ended up getting to be just about as tall as I am, significantly wider, and producing large quantities of peppers all the way up until the first frost. I didn't save any seeds, because the peppers themselves, while quite palatable, were neither unusual nor universal enough to justify taking up the quantity of space they occupied in my modest suburban garden. If you want to grow Ajis, I would suggest starting them as early as you can. You can order Aji seeds from Davis: http://www.tallahassee.net/~dpsc Good luck!
