Well, Mary-Anne, and whomever else...Stone's Original Green Ginger has an alcohol content of 13.5% , so it is a little more than a wine, although that is what it is called. It is originally from England, but it is available here in Canada in 750 ml bottles at all liquor venders. I suppose that an acceptable substitution would be a lot more raw ginger, and a good sherry, or one could try to make it at home, by infusing the raw ginger in vodka, or by combining ginger syrup with vodka. I have been using it as a marinade for anything Asian ever since I discovered how well it worked, as well as how it tastes...combined with soy sauce and sesame oil, it is unbeatable.
