For those of you who are experiencing Damping-Off problems with you new seedling plants, take a look at the March/April 1999 issue of _Organic Gardening_ Magazine. On page 62 is a short article describing damping-off and a new (to me, at least) way to deal with it. They recommend that you drench your high-quality seed-starting mix with a solution of 1 tablespoon clove oil, a drop of liquid dishwashing detergent, and 1 gallon of water. According to the magazine, scientists have recently discovered that clove oil suppresses damping-off. But no citations to actual scientific experiments are give. Clove oil is available through most pharmacies. OR, put a half-inch layer of milled light-colored sphagnum moss (sold as "No Damp Off Seed Starter") on top of your soil mix and then plant your seeds into the moss. Now a question about the Huachinango chile. Is this chile a specific variety of Jalapeno or is it just found as a chance occurrence on a Jalapeno plant? If the former, where can I find plants (or seeds) of this chile? ==================================================================== Bob Batson L 39 12 14 N 94 33 16 W bob@sky.net Kansas City TCS - Mystic Fire Priest USDA zone 5b ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Under the most controlled conditions, the experimental apparatus will do exactly as it pleases.
