Gee Whiz, Duh. As an advocate of the "Art of Conversation," I do not believe the List would be as interesting or as stimulating if it were limited to discussion purely on chiles. It is the diversity of chiles that makes the subject so interesting, not to mention how they relate to other foods, spices, herbs, and how humans and other animals, birds, etc. react to them. Also chiles in arts and crafts (and song). In my opinion the list would be sterile and uninteresting without the occasional "off-topic" post. I have been guilty of posting (by mistake) things to the list that were completely off topic and I was sent a gentle reminder by the owner. Oddly enough, one of these posts brought more personal messages to me than any of the "pure" chile posts I have made.
