Hi Scott (and Tom Cuneo), Scott writ: I built it out of landscape timbers (8 feet long, flat on 2 sides, >rounded on 2 sides And somebody writ about "Miracle-Gro", and someone writ about 2x10 boards. OK Guys, if you don't mind poisoning your soil with chemical fertilizers (which leave residual salts in the soil) then you probably wouldn't mind the chemical junk coming out of the treated woods (landscape timbers, railroad ties, etc.). But your 2x10s (if not treated) aren't gonna last long. If you were starting fresh, I'd use flagstone, cinder blocks, concrete, and other inert stuff. "TREX" is an interesting product made of soft plastic and shredded wood. It's inert, but comes only in 1x6s. I use them stacked on edge with supports. Two years and the TREX hasn't changed at all. And it does not produce any toxic by-products. Your local lumber yard can get it. Also, someone writ about buying topsoil. Lotsa problems there. And properties like pH and analysis won't stay the same without lotsa compost (organic), and other beneficial organic soil amendments. Just thought I'd stir you folks up. If anyone's interested in learning more, e-mail me privately. Good luck. I feel like we need all the advantages we can get in pursuit of GREAT CHILES. Tom
