Ron Hill Wrote about monarda which is different than the traditional Oswego Tea, which is also known as the "root beer" plant because that is the way the leaves should smell when crushed. The red and purple flowered varieties in my garden still have the true scent. The white flowered variety has the "off" scent. I take care to deadhead all the white flowers but allow the others to free seed. The flowers of all varieties attract butterflys and hummingbirds. -- Andie Paysinger & the PENDRAGON Basenjis,Teafer,Cheesy,Singer & Player asenji@earthlink.net So. Calif.
