"naturally occurring substance" of course has little bearing on suitability. The arsenic leachate we're discussing the safety of is "naturally occurring". Boron is a naturally occurring, and essential, nutrient, but toxic excesses occur (naturally, in some areas) when the amounts of boron are really very small. Salt (NaCl) is naturally occurring, yet small excesses of this in soils harm most terrestrial plants. Etc. I have no knowledge about and I'm not saying that copper-treated, or arsenic-treated, or creosote-treated wood is unsafe or unwise to use in/near food gardens, I'm just pointing out that "naturally occurring" has little relevance. --- Brent
