[CH] Cap reaction

I have a questioned for all of you esteemed CH'ers. I was eating at a Thai
restaurant Saturday night and ordered Tom Yum soup and Spicy Pompano. Now,
at this place, 3 stars is considered hot and spicy, 5 stars is considered
native Thai. I ordered the soup as 5 stars and the fish as 10. I tried 15
stars once, but all you could taste was chiles. Not that that is bad, but I
was there for the taste of Thai.

Anyway, when the soup came I dumped about tablespoon of Thai chiles soaked
in fish sauce into it. That brought the heat scale up to about 10 stars.
Sure enough I was sweating and my nose was running, etc., the whole 9 yards.
But after the soup, when the fish finally came, it was not even warm. Now I
figured that I had OD'ed my pain receptors, but the weird thing was that I
continued to sweat and my nose still ran even though I was not burning.

Anyone have any idea why? I am *guessing* that even though my mouth was
numb, the rest of my body was still reacting. An inquiring mind wants to
know.
