You aren't jumping the gun. Your boys will let you know what they want. By way of illustration, My sister visited with her daughter some years back. Bethany was less than a year old, still nursing and in the crawling stage. She crawled into the garden and picked herself a beautiful red cayenne, crawled out and began munching. Faye took it away saying "No, too hot". Bethany began screaming and crying until Faye gave her the pepper back, saying "You'll have to learn your lesson the hard way". Bethany stopped crying and ate the whole pepper, and still likes hot chiles today (she's going on 17). BTW, nothing unusual in her diapers that day either. Bottom line, if the boys want it, let them have it. If they don't want it, don't force it.
