Long time lurker here. Regarding how to transplant chiles and tomatoes: The grandfather of a friend has been a truck farmer for many years. I stopped by to see him several years ago, and he had the largest roma tomatoes I have ever seen. I asked him how he did it, and his response was that he planted the plants parallel to the ground, rather than deep. He would dig a trench at the depth you would normally plant the tomato, strip off the lower sets of leaves, lay the plant in the trench with the roots to the south of the foliage, and cover. It works (though not as well) for me with both tomatoes and chiles. Bob
