I used to live in NYC and now live in NJ but I can tell you a couple of
places to go in NYC:

For eating:

Mesa Grill, fifth avenue
Zarela's, don't have address, sorry

For shopping:

Kitchen Market - 218 Eighth Avenue, NYC (212)243-4433 - they have
chiles, dried and fresh, flaked or powdered, hot sauces, salsas, you
name it.

This is just the beginning. I'll get more information for you before you
go.
