In the past I have used lots of steer manure iwith very good results. I have read this 10% salt thing from a number of sources but I have noticed no problem in using it in my garden. I find it hard to believe that a steer (or any mammal) could excrete that high a salt content and still be alive, but that question is way out of my league. Maybe others could comment. I would regard steer manure more as a soil amendment rather than a fertizer. I add fertilizer along with the the manure when digging it in. The main reason for me having used manure was the cost. It very inexpensive and available everywhere. I have not used manure in the past three years, but this is only because I'm fortunate to have essentially unlimited access to free compost through the city where I live. If the free compost dries up I'll be back using steer manure. Lynn Edwards www.crl.com/~ledwards
