Three places merit your attention. Well, at least three -- we were only there four days, this is the best I could do. Killer Chicken (The AntiChain Restaurant). A must for any chile-head. Their Jamaican Jerked Chicken is almost up to Jon Shemitz's standards (less heat, but all the flavor). Garlic smashed potatoes for those who need something to cut the heat. Highly recommended. Located on Hwy. 50 across from Taco Bell and Burger King about a mile north of the intersection of highways 50 and 89. 2660 Lake Tahoe Blvd., S. Lake Tahoe. 530-542-9977. http://www.killerchicken.com Hot Pepper Grill. A taqueria that looks smaller from the outside than it actually is. We tried the quesadilla with roasted garlic and spinach as well as the California Wrap (a sun-dried tomato tortilla, no less). Lots of fish specialties and intriguing use of chiles. Located about a mile north of Killer Chicken, conveniently on the same side of the road. 3490 Lake Tahoe Blvd., S. Lake Tahoe. 530-542-1015. The Beacon Bar & Grill. Located on the lake in Camp Richardson just up hwy. 89 from the intersection with hwy. 50. You have to pay $3 to get into Camp Richardson; they'll deduct it from your bill at the Beacon. Outstanding garlic and chile shrimp appetizer with a respectable andouille sausage sandwich. Don't have their phone number handy. Hope this helps. - Tony Lima
