Hi C-H's, Luke in Oz quoted me: >> but in February I was up at 19,000' in the Andes near the >> Chilean/Bolivian border in the tropical dry desert. and asked: >So Cameron; > What Goodies did you bring back ??? Two sachets of "hot" sauce :-( Chile is almost bereft of chile. I had to ask for "Aji Chileno" at every meal. It is an unremarkable hot sauce. Thank goodness I always take my own stash or I surely would have perished. We stayed a few days in Patagonia at the Torres del Paine National Park. There I was able to procure a bowl of soup made from assorted marine animals and with much pleading, an aji. It turned out to be a C. baccatum about 5" long but not very hot. The soup was very tasty however. I had it every night we were there. You go to Chile to eat one thing - seafood. The rest of the cuisine is pretty unremarkable and in many cases rather bland. What a waste! Can you believe the place is called Chile and they hardly know what it is? When you go to Canada and ask for a canada good stuff, they sure know what you're talking about! The country itself though is mind blowing. Don't get me started....... BTW - Bill sent me some of the mystery seeds and they are C. pubescens. Will try to grow them. Regards, Cameron.
