I get the same reaction, being a lowlander (elevation 42 feet), when I
partake of any alcohol or hot (I mean REALLY HOT) food at altitude.  My
brother lives in Los Alamos, NM which is over 7000 feet, I believe, and
"when in New Mexico...."
