This is my first year growing Red Savinas, and, though I've enjoyed many products made with this wonderful fruit, I've never had the opportunity to partake of one fresh, out of hand. You can imagine my excitement when I spied that first glint of red coming from the Savina row of the 'ol chile patch, or, as my wife refers to it "Doug's Multimillion Dollar Chile Project". I harvested three Sunday, two of which were small, about the size of a jawbreaker, and the third, which was about the size of a prune. I know, I know, nothing along the lines of Jim's fist size Savinas.......oh, I'm sorry, I felt a bit light-headed for a moment.....but damn pretty chiles, anyway. I popped one of the small ones in my mouth as an accompaniment to my breakfast eggs, and WOW! what flavor, like an orange Habanero, but bigger, sweeter, fruitier. To tell you the truth, at first I was a little disappointed I was able to taste the chile at all having prepared myself for an overwhelming searing, but, after relishing the flavor for a few moments the heat started to roll from the back of my throat and pretty soon, I was a-buzzin! I don't know now if my six Savina plants will be able to keep up! Here's hoping you all are at least knee deep in chiles, Doug _____________________________________________________ |Gol' durn it, in my day Weezer was a town in Idaho!| ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
