For a picture, see http://www.rdrop.com/~garyh/thai.jpg or not, it doesn't really matter. For several years, a local (Portland, Oregon) nursery has offered chile plants labeled "Thai Hot." Previously, this has been a prik ki nu (rat sh*t) type chile, but last year, they didn't have any. They said, "There was a crop failure; next year, we'll have Thai Dragons." Okay, so this year, I got some plants, and the chiles are very different. Again, they were simply labeled as "Thai Hot." These chiles look like a typical Thai plant (compact, small leaves,) but the chiles are larger and inferior to the previous offerings. They are long, skinny, and have very thin skins. In fact, most of the fruit is taken up by seeds. They are rather bumpy-looking (due to the seeds,) with a low moisture content (they can start drying on the plant and you'd hardly notice,) and, most importantly, they aren't as hot as the previous variety offered by this nursery. So, for the chile cognoscenti, the question is this: Are these Thai Dragons? I'm not at all impressed by these chiles, and wouldn't really want to grow them again. Unfortunately, whatever they sell next year will again be labeled "Thai Hot," and I'll have to try them to see what they are. --Gary Hanson
