I received Steve's sample of his #1 Hot Spice Mix recently. I cannot compare it to Calvin's, having never tried that, but I will say that the flavor and heat are both superb. It is reminiscent in taste of Chile Today Hot Tomale's Smoked Habanero/Pasilla Blend powder, though the flavor is more complex and the heat is greater by a factor of at least 4. I had some on a pizza, and the flavor was perfect, I did not need any other toppings, it was just a cheese pizza and Steve's powder. The burn is very much a back of the roof of the mouth affair, for those of you who enjoy being burned there. My lips and tongue mostly tingled, but the true burn was back of mouth towards the throat. A little really goes a long way. I sprinkled a half teaspoon over the 12 inch pizza, and I will bet that is already too hot for some of the folks on this list. Reminded me of eating Jim Campbell's 'The Bread' which I found extraordinarily hot but still just under the wire of tolerable. If you like 'the bread', you will definitely like Steve's #1 powder. If you find 'the bread' too hot, you can still enjoy Steve's powder, just go easy on the amounts. Porter
