Hi there. Recently I got in touch with a pepper extract sauce (Spontaneous Combustion) for the first time. And I remembered that I read on this list that some think pepper extract sauces taste like burned cat. I gotta admit: I know what you mean, although I never tasted a burned cat. Another interesting observation is that this ugly taste ranges from very prominent to non- existing, depending on what kind of food I put it on. Which raises an interesting question: how do they make this stuff??? Filter it through the ashes of a burned cat or what?? :-D I mean, per definition this extract should be pure stuff and not contain anything that is not present in real chiles. Any theories as to why and how this happens? Wolfgang.
