Admission to the event is $ 7 for adults and $ 4 for children under twelve. Once again the Pig & Pepper will host two Championship Barbecue Cookoffs. Saturday's event features two amateur barbecue competitions. Cooking categories for these amateur enthusiasts range from seafood (smoked or grilled) to meats (any meat smoked or grilled). On Sunday, nearly a dozen professional and the most serious amateur teams will vie for the title of State Barbecue Championship, smoking their very best finger licking' brisket, ribs, pork shoulder, and chicken. This competition is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, an organization nationally recognized for its barbecue expertise. If you don't want to compete, but you want to satisfy your cravings for mouth watering, authentic barbecue, a wide variety of vendors including such favorites as Jake's, Redbone's, Sit 'N Bull Pub, and Tennessee's Barbecue will be on hand. | Complementing the spicy barbecue competition is the festive pepper | contest, with prizes in a wide range of categories including pepper | plants, barbecue sauces, salsas, and pepper relishes, with many | products for sale. Arts and crafts exhibitors will be on hand to show their handiwork, some of which will also be on sale to fair-goers. The well-known and homegrown talents of Bluestime with Jay Geils and Magic Dick, will headline an impressive array of musical entertainment throughout the two-day festival. The Kid's Corral will entertain the younger set, with a wide range of country games and activities, pony rides and hayrides. All net proceeds from this volunteer effort go to the support of public education in the towns of Westford and Carlisle. The Pig & Pepper is organized by the Carlisle Education Foundation and the WestNet Partnership. The Pig and Pepper is held at Kimball Farm in Westford, Massachusetts.
