Celeste and I went up and spent a couple of hours at the show on Saturday. A few impressions and some "name dropping". After several years of corresponding and phone calls, I finally got to meet Mary Going (Firegirl) in person. Like me, she hates having to do exhibits. She also took my picture. Met a grower from Quito Ecuador who showed me a pepper called "Tepa", I think. Bright red, grown by natives in the Amazon basin and between a Tabasco and Habanero in heat he sez. Celeste bought several ristras from Garcia Farms. They are on the internet at: http://www.chileshop.com. A two foot New Mexican ristra was $10.00. Good quality. Had a nice talk Harald Zoschke of Suncoast Peppers of St. Petersburg Florida. He recently published "Das Chili Pepper Buch" with identification information, gardening handbook and recipe collection in German. Along with sauces, sells a lot of nifty chile head stuff. http:www.pepperworld.com Talked with Billy "Biker Billy" Hufnagle. He has written some cookbooks, rides a Harley, and Burpee Seeds recently introduced a Hybrid Jalapeno named Biker Billy which is supposedly 4 times hotter than the average Jalap. He thinks Burpee will release it to other seed companies in the future and I'll certainly pick it up. Certainly a much more interesting Jalapeno than Fooled You:-) Spoke with a representative from Signal Specialty Growers Inc. of Plant City Florida and Belize. They are growing several varieties including Scotch Bonnet, Habanero and Caribbean Red Habanero. They will ship directly to your house, at least in the US. I didn't inquire about prices. http://www.pepperpackscom. Tasted a lot of xxx-hot sauces. One of my favorites was a Scotch Bonnet from Antilles, I think. Really noticed that the burn started farther back than Habanero did. When I compared them in Jamaica I couldn't notice a difference. Quite a crowd at Dave's of Dave's Insanity fame. He wasn't much help because of the straight jacket he was wearing:-) Last interesting one that I'll mention is Cowgirl Chocolates of Moscow Idaho. You chocoholics should check them out at: http://www.cowgirlchocolates.com. I haven't checked out any of these websites, just took them from the show guide. Heading back up this afternoon to buy some books and negotiate to buy the Celestial Arts Chile and Hot Sauce posters. These are probably the most asked for that I don't have product. There are two Chile and 3 Hot Sauce Posters now. Dave Anderson Tough Love Chile Co. http://www.tough-love.com
