Small whole baby fish are called White Bait around these parts. Normally dished up floured and deep fried with a slice of lemon. And of course a bottle of the local peri-peri sauce. Thanks for the tips. Been doing some looking into the "when to plant chiles question" and found this in the Time-Life Vegetable book... just for the record.... I suppose I could have looked here first. I guess I figured it would only refer to temperate climates. Anyway, and I quote... "In frost-free areas, sow seeds directly outdoors in spring or autumn". I'll keep you all posted as to what happens. Speaking about green mangoes, a very popular side dish here is called "atchar" -salted, green mangoes bedded down in a chile enhanced oil. I'll look around for a proper recipe. Cheers, Steve M. Duddy The Wilderness South Africa
