Hi C-H's,

In his aptly titled posting Byron wrote:

>I deal coverage for compost is 3 in per year.
>to cover 1 acre of land 3 in deep is 1 million tons.

Some of you noticed how ridiculous the figures are.
There are 4840sq.yds. in 1 acre.
1,000,000 divided by 4840 = 206.6tons per sq.yd.
If he meant 1 million pounds then the answer comes down to a mere
206.6 pounds per sq.yd.
If he meant 1 million tons per square mile this would deposit about
one third of a ton per square yard.

There is a lesson here. Byron means well, but his, like any other
advice you read here, (including this!) should be used with thought
and care. If you are new to growing plants, check your local library
and extension services for information. When you have an
understanding of what it takes to grow plants then by all means use
cold tea, astrology, magic spells or whatever else you think will
work.
