From: "Byron Bromley" <Byron.Bromley@gsd-co.com> There is another method called underground soaker hoses. Disadvantge, must layout in spring while planting. Need to be careful with shovels and hoes. Advantages, can be watered in PM with little plant problems, can work in garden while watering, Does not wash off bugspray if elected. Appears to take less water. Byron, We use this method with great success. Don't have any of the disadvantages you speak of. Once the plants are in the garden and the hot, dry weather shows up, we layout the feeder lines and soaker hose, then mulch over them. Little or no weeds after that so we don't need to dig or how much and can water day or night without evaporation lose or wetting the leaves. Uses a lot less water and puts it where you need it. We brake up the garden into different zones and can adjust the system to what plants get how much water and when. Also it is fast and easy to add an in line water soluble fertilizer unit to different section of the garden. Save a lot of work in the end, but does take a lot of time to set up properly and adjust if you have a large garden.
