Hi Luke et al, Off topic: Salt: I know where you're coming from. I was a professional chef for 9 years before becoming a geophysicist. I was always added too little salt because my hands re really small. I would need two hands to get half a cup! (to give you an idea, I'm 5'1" with hands the diameter of a coffee mug). You also have to bear in mind that they use bigger pots. Being now a geophysicist, I can tell you that salt (NaCl) is a mineral, formed like all others. When found naturally in pure form, geologists call it halite (I've always wondered about the connection with the word halitosis..). It originates on the land like everything else that is the product of geophysical processes, and gets leached into the sea by rain, just like all our pesticides and other goodies. The sea has been getting saltier over the millennia, and will continue to do so. On topic: I have found the ultimate solution to the possum problem: move house! Yep, I've bit the bullet and have been informed in no uncertain terms that the SO is tired of the 2 hour twice daily commute and we're moving into Sydney. I have to start a new garden over lawn. I was thinking of removing the grass, giving it a quick hoe (to remove compaction), drowning it in mulch and letting things stew for a few weeks...any suggestions? yours in chillidom Tara -- ______________________________________________________ Tara Deen School of Earth Sciences Division of Geology and Geophysics Building FO5 University of Sydney NSW 2006 Phone: 61-2-9351 4271 Fax: 61-2-9351 0184 email: tara@es.usyd.edu.au ______________________________________________________
