I recently tilled a former section of backyard lawn and plan on planting tomatoes and chiles. It'll be almost impossible to get all the old bermuda grass out, so I'm going to lay down a layer of black plastic to try and keep the bermuda under control. The summer temps here in sunny SoCal frequently range from 90 to 100 degrees, so I'm thinking of covering the black plastic with a thin layer of mulch of some kind to keep the soil from getting too hot and cooking the plant roots. I'd like to use something I can till into the soil after the growing season. Anyone done this before? Any suggestions...? -- Rich McCormack (Poway, CA) macknet@pacbell.net Who is Rich McCormack?
