[CH] landscape fabric

I have found, at least in the humid days of summer in GA that weeds do
incredibly well growing on top of landscape fabric. Or more specifically
they start in the mulch, but then root easily into the fabric. Ants seem to
love it under there as well. I had some in a flower bed near my house and
pretty much created a breeding den for carpenter ants. The fabric may work
better in other climates, but I will not use it again in Atlanta. I put a
few layers of newspaper down and cover it with mulch. Then I can til it all
under the following Spring. I keep saying I would like to find a wide roll
of paper next year, but never do. Papering is a bit annoying to me, but
much less than weeding.
Garden update: still waiting for my mail order plants, but all others
doing very well. Flowers on about eight tomato plants, a zucchini that
thinks its midsummer, and the chiles are digging in and growing beautifully.
sometimes it all just makes ya smile.
take care,
Suz
