Dear Ch.Ds: Growing my first tomatillos. Chilewoman's plants are 2.5 feet tall, covered in blossoms and potato beetles. ToughLove's seeds are now 1 foot plants. These things seems as fragile as tuberous begonias. The long stems sprout roots at the soil line, suggesting that I oughtta hill some soil around them for additional rooting and support. I'm busily squishing the beetles in mid-coitus and scraping their eggs off the undersides of leaves. Tomatillo leaves do make an attractive lace. All suggestions deeply appreciated. And, despite the date, summer refuses to arrive in Western Massachusetts but the chile plants (most) are sporting buds and blossoms with overnight temperatures rarely above the mid-fifties, brrrrrrrr.
