In anticipation of Brother Jim's Open Fields event, I thought it appropriate to compose a brief musical number for the occasion. You can sing it to the tune of the Beverly Hillbillies Theme Song (or at least you can try) The Ballad Of Brother Jim Come and listen to a story 'bout a man named Brother Jim, Poor firefighter, Always workin' hard, That's him! Then one day he was munchin' on some food , And up from the depths came something that was rude! Pepper juice it was, hot sauce, breeze from hell Well, the first thing you know, Young Jim whipped up a sauce, And grew himself some peppers so he wouldn't see a loss, They said "New Mexico is where you ought to be", But said my buddy Jim, "Indiana's right for me!" Flat land, good soil, Open Fields As a sign of Jim's true kindness and his generosity, He lets us pick his peppers and we get to do it free. We offer him our money, and he says "Get away from me!" "You can chop, freeze, dry or smoke them... It's all just fine with me" Forgot your gloves, Hunan hand, Chilly Willy Well now it's time to say goodbye to Jim and all his friends We all wish that this weekend just wouldn't have to end. I hope that we're invited back to this locality, To have a heapin' helpin' of his pepperosity! Y'all take your gloves off, Ya' hear?
