[CH] pot sizes for ornamentals

I'm trying to plan my garden at the moment. I want to put my prettiest
ornamentals into pots, for maximum display effect. It seems I have
roughly three sizes of ornamentals:

1' tall x 1' wide
2' tall x 1' wide
3' tall x 2' wide

Can anyone recommend from experience the optimum pot sizes for these
plants?
