Riley,
I resemble that remark. If you don't care for Rolling Rock that's OK, but
let's keep the facts somewhat close to reality. David Rosengarten, on his
"Taste" program on the Food Network (FoodTV.com, sue me) did a taste test to
kill the burn of traditional Mexican hot dishes with beer. He had about a
hunnert beers on his counter. Based on his results with many tasters, he
came up with two high hop beers as the best burn killers of all the beers on
his table. One was Brooklyn Brewery Pale Ale, the other was Rolling Rock.
At Mahar's Pub in Albany, NY, a place known for it's 22-25 different
microbrew draught selections (constantly changing) they had Brooklyn Pale on
tap and RR in the bottle. When compared to whatever the customer may have
had in front of him/her, the same two beers killed the burn (on tabasco laced
meatballs) better than all the random selections. Most of those folks don't
care for RR either.
My opinion is that any IPA will do as well. No one said that beer is better
than yogurt, milk, ice cream, peanut butter, etc. Rosengarten and I say that
"among beers" the hoppy ones help more than the others.
